Family Dispute Resolution

Family Dispute Resolution is a form of mediation used before, during and/or after (sometimes many years after) divorce. An Agenda is established, drawn from the issues that the former partners bring, and structured negotiation occurs on each Agenda Item. The process is carefully managed throughout by a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, registered by the Federal Attorney General's Department.

The Attorney General's website states, "A family dispute resolution practitioner is an independent person who can help people discuss issues, look at options and work out how best to reach agreement in disputes about children and property. If people resolve their differences without going to court they will save themselves time, money and stress. The law now requires separating families who have a dispute about parenting arrangements to make a genuine effort to resolve that dispute by family dispute resolution before they can apply to a court."

Therapeutic Family Dispute Resolution and Child-Inclusive Family Dispute Resolution are available to assist separating and divorced parents sort out issues relating to their child. As a registered family dispute resolution practitioner, I am able to issue 60I Certificates, where appropriate, for a parent needing to proceed on to court.
